While growing up in South Dakota, Barbara Smith became involved in the home building industry by working in her parents’ company. She learned about the many areas of construction and decided to broaden her knowledge of the industry while studying in college.
She moved to Bakersfield in 1989 and started working for Coleman Homes and later was offered the opportunity to be a part of the management team that would start a homebuilding division for Castle & Cooke, the largest developer in Kern County.
After leaving the corporate world of homebuilding, Barbara started her own business and has built over 300 homes in Kern County. And building continues as a family business, as Barbara’s husband, Bob, of Wallace and Smith is a commercial contractor.
